　年収1億円を超える開業医から相談があった。

「今朝、息子が暴れてパソコンを壊したんです。これから買いに行こうと思うのですが、どんな機種がいいですか」

　桑野氏が「ちょっと待ってください、すぐに買ったらまったく意味がない」とたしなめると、「では安いのにしようかな、25万円くらいの」と答えた。

「引きこもりなのに毎月5万円の小遣いを与える。だから、子供はネットで好きなものをいっぱい買っています。部屋がスポーツジムみたいになっていて、他人に会わないのに身体を鍛えている。色は真っ白でも腹筋が割れていたり。

　億の収入があれば、子供に最高のものを与えようとします。教育もそう。最高の塾、最高の家庭教師、最高の学歴……。それに反発して引きこもりになった子がほとんどです。
本当は、子供たちはささやかな愛情を求めているんですよ。『お前が生きていてくれるだけでいい』と親に言われた子なんて一人もいない。逆に、『こんな子、もうあなたにあげます』と私が言われたことはよくあります」

　彼らは「僕はすべてに成功してきました。だから子育ても成功すると思っていた」と言い、失敗作はいらないと本気で口にする。
